Originally commissioned and developed by The Stratford Festival

It’s not just about where they’re going, it’s about the stories shared along the way.

This lively play follows a diverse group of pilgrims on a journey to Canterbury, each competing to tell the most unforgettable tale. Mitchell Cushman repurposes Geoffrey Chaucer’s classic with biting humour, live music and a witty blend of modern and Shakespearean language. The Canterbury Tales is a playful exploration of class, religion, gender and the stories that connect us.

Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales will be playing in the Studio Theatre from January 31–February 4, 2026.

Works-in-development

Theatre Sheridan is proud to continue its legacy of developing new works.

To start our season, the First Drafts program features new musicals by some of Canada’s best writers and composers. These workshop presentations will premiere 45-minute excerpts of three never-before-seen scripts in their earliest stages of development.

The newly minted Musical Development Project provides a unique glimpse into the creative process, showcasing collaborations between our students and artists from around the world. Come see these new musicals in their final stages of development before they become the next big hit.

First Drafts and the Musical Development Project will be stand-and-sing presentations.
